General Membership Meeting

President Larry Roberts
called the meeting to order at 12:13pm at the AFL-CIO Bldg. Brother George
Roman led the Pledge of Allegiance. There was a roll call of the officers by
Secretary Cory L. Purifoy. There was a quorum.
Excused Absent: Al Garcia
and John Mercado

1. The General Membership Minutes from December were provided to the members for review and questions. A motion was made to accept the minutes from December. (Motion passed) 2. The Financial Report from December was provided to the General Membership for review and questions. A motion was made to accept the Financial Report from December. (Motion passed) 3. The Financial Report from January was provided to the General Membership for review and questions. A motion was made to accept the Financial Report from January. (Motion passed)
4. A motion was made by Vice-President Linda Daniel to suspend regular business to allow American Family Life Assurance Company of Columbus (AFLAC) Representative Dale Hargrove time to give a short presentation about AFLAC medical related benefits. (Motion passed) 5. Regular business resumed at 12:46pm 6. The Executive Board is bringing forth a request before the General Membership that the local spend up to $2,000.00 for a new T.V. at the General Mail Facility. (Motion passed) 7. The Executive Board is bringing forth a request before the General Membership that the local pay up to 60hrs of LWOP to Treasurer Dan Hillis for CAP audit conducted by the Department of Labor. (Motion passed) 8. President Roberts announced that the Texas Postal Workers Union (TPWU) Convention will be held in Corpus Christi , Texas – June 11-13, 2009. Also, during the next meeting there will be votes cast for delegates wanting to attend. 9. There was a discussion about the Department of Labor’s new version of FMLA documents for certification. The effective start date was January 16, 2009. 10. There was a discussion about management’s use of abusive tactics such as giving employees AWOLS as a means to improve attendance. Remember, the Employee Labor Manual provides explicit rules and guidelines for attendance and documentation requirements for specific issues related to absences. 11. There was a discussion about the National Reassessment and finding reasonable accommodations for injured workers without causing harm to the regular workforce because principles of seniority still applies.
