Executive Board Meeting Minutes

3/20/10

 

Vice-President Linda Daniel called the meeting to order at 11:15 am at the AFL-CIO Bldg. There was a roll call of the officers by Cory L. Purifoy. There was a

quorum.

 

Excused Absent: John Mercado, Leonard Lara, and Monte Lane

 

Unexcused Absent: None

 

 

Old Business from February 20, 2010:

 

 

  1. The Executive Board Minutes from December were distributed for review and questions.  A motion was made by Sister Cathy Robbins and seconded by Brother Roy Vasquez to accept the Executive Board Minutes from December. (Motion passed)
  2. A motion was made by Brother Roy Vasquez and seconded by Brother John Castillo that the local expend up to $400.00 for an APWU Golf Tournament. (Motion passed)

 

3.   There was a discussion about the upcoming State Educational Conference

      that will be held in Ft. Worth, Texas in June. The Educational Conference   

      does not require nominations.

 

  1. There was a discussion about nominations for the upcoming APWU National Elections in April.

 

5.   There was a discussion about the Members-At-Large.

 

  1. There was a discussion about members donating at minimum of $5 to COPA.

 

7.  Brother Roy Vasquez reported that the Annual Christmas Party was a hug success with more than 312 people participating. Also, he wanted to recognize the efforts of Linda Daniel, Cathy Robbins, and Jesse Benavides.

 

  1. Notable:  Brother Joe Aaron donated his turkey during the December giveaway to another member.

 

  1. Brother John Castillo spoke about the report that he compiled about COPA funds raised by other local around the country.

 

  1.  There was a discussion about upcoming arbitration dates for maintenance.

 

  1. There was a discussion about FMLA. The Union recommends that members file complaints with the Department of Labor regarding FMLA.

 

  1. There was a discussion about the USPS National Reassessment Program. Austin will be the first in the Rio Grande District to initiate the next phase of the National Reassessment Program. Interactive Interviews will be conducted in the upcoming months.

 

  1. Brother Abdul Essa informed the Executive Board that maintenance employee Richard Combs had passed away.

 

New Business:

 

  1. The Executive Board Minutes from February were distributed for review and questions.  A motion was made by Sister Cathy Robbins and seconded by Brother Roy Vasquez to accept the Executive Board Minutes from February. (Motion passed)

 

2.      Sister Linda Daniel made a motion that the local donate $300 to assist the “Playmakers Youth Baseball Team” with their travel expenses to South Carolina. (Motion passed)

 

3.      A motion was made by Sister Cathy Robbins and seconded by Sister Linda Daniel that the local send 10 delegates and expend $800 per delegate for the TPWU Educational Conference in Fort Worth, Texas – June 17-19. Selection of delegates at the local President’s discretion. (Motion passed)

 

4.      There was a discussion about whether or not the local should purchase pins.

 

5.      There was a discussion about the social and recreation committee’s upcoming golf tournament.

 

6.      There was a discussion about getting new members added to our local from Lockhart, Texas.

 

7.      There was a discussion about the National Convention.

 

A motion was made to adjourn.
