General Membership Meeting Minutes

3/20/10

 

Vice-President Linda Daniel called the meeting to order at 12:09 pm at the AFL-CIO Bldg. Brother George Roman led the Pledge of Allegiance. There was a roll call of the officers by Cory L. Purifoy. There was a quorum.

 

Excused Absent: John Mercado, Leonard Lara, and Monte Lane

 

Unexcused Absent: None

 

      1.   The General Membership Minutes from February were provided to the members for review and questions. A motion was made by Sister Cathy Robbins and seconded by Brother Roy Vasquez to accept the minutes from February. (Motion passed)
 
2.      The Financial Report from February was provided to the members for review and questions. A motion was made by Brother Al Garcia to accept the Financial Report from February. (Motion passed)
 
3.      The Executive Board brought forth a request before the General Membership that the local expend $800.00 per delegate for the upcoming TPWU Biennial Educational Conference in Fort Worth, Texas June 17-19.  The selection of delegates will be at the local President’s discretion.  Motion amended to include: If other members would like to attend the TPWU Educational Conference, the local will pay for their registration. (Motion passed)
 
4.      The Executive Board brought forth a request before the General Membership that the local donate $300 to assist the “Playmakers Youth Baseball Team” with their travel expense to South Carolina. (Motion passed)
 
5.      There was a discussion about a potential new location for the local’s office.
 
6.      There was a discussion about the recent Postmasters General’s desire to recommend negotiating a multi-craft workforce.
 
7.      There was a discussion about the National Reassessment Process.
 
8.      There was a discussion about the anniversary of the “Great Postal Strike” of 1970.
 
9.      There was a discussion about the numerous arbitration cases and how these cases can take years before arbitrators hear them.
 
10. There was a discussion about 5-day delivery.
 
11.  President Roberts wanted to remind members about what to do when approached by OIG. “Know Your Rights!” You must cooperate but you have the right to request Union and/or Legal representation.
 
12.  There was a discussion about COPA.
 
13.  There was a discussion about Healthcare Reform.

-Brother Larry Roberts won a 425 Bid for a $50 Gift Certificate for Cleaning Service
-Brother Jesse Benivides won a $18 Bid for a Cooler, and a $10 Bid for an APWU T-shirt
 
A motion was made to adjourn.
 
               Meeting adjourned at 1:19pm.
