General Membership Meeting Minutes

President Larry Roberts called the meeting to order at 12:17pm at the AFL-CIO Bldg. Vice-President Linda Daniel led the pledge of allegiance. There was a roll call of the officers by Secretary Cory L. Purifoy.

Excused Absent: John Mercado, George Roman and Cathy Robbins

Unexcused Absent:

         1.   The General Membership Minutes from September were provided to the members for review and questions. A motion was made to accept the minutes from September. (Motion passed)
 
         2.   The Financial Report from September was provided to the General Membership for review and questions. A motion was made to accept the Financial Report from September by Al Garcia and seconded by President Larry Roberts. (Motion passed)
 
         3.   Treasurer Dan Hillis reported that the discrepancy found last week regarding two separate check numbers had been corrected by voiding one out.
 
         4.   The Executive Board is recommending that the General Membership approve the local’s purchase of 30 turkeys for the November giveaway and 20 turkeys, 10 hams and 1 chicken for the December giveaway. (Motion passed)
 
         5.   There was a discussion about the budget report prepared by treasurer Dan Hillis. A motion was made to accept the budget report by Ben Soliz and seconded by President Larry Roberts. (Motion passed)
 
         6.   President Larry Roberts spoke about postal management’s desire to       eliminate Tour 2 operations and move to a 4 day work week.
 
         7.   There was a discussion about postal management looking to reduce the workforce by seeking out those employees who have not reached the (6) year protected status per the national contract.  
 
 
         8.   There was a discussion about the location of employees’ personal files. Due to the recent changes of human resources, employees should be able to view their OPF online.
 
         Announcements-
 
         Austin Local 299 will have a picket across from the GMF at 1:00pm – 1:30pm on Thursday, October 23, 2008.
 
         Brother Roy Vasquez collected $109 from members attending the meeting for COPA.

A motion was made to adjourn.
