General Board Meeting Minutes

10/17/09

 

President Larry Roberts called the meeting to order at 12:25 pm at the AFL-CIO Bldg. Sister Linda Daniel led the Pledge of Allegiance. Note: The General Membership Meeting was delayed 25 minutes until there was a quorum. There was a roll call of the officers by Secretary Cory L. Purifoy.

 

Excused Absent: John Mercado, Jesse Benavides, Al Garcia, Leonard Lara, George Roman, Ben Soliz, John Castillo, Joe Aaron, and Monte Lane

 

Unexcused Absent: None

      1.   The General Membership Minutes from September 19, 2009 were provided to the members for review and questions. A motion was made by Sister Cathy Robbins to accept the minutes from September. (Motion passed)
 
2.      The Financial Report from September was provided to the members for review and questions. A motion was made by President Roberts to accept the Financial Report from September. (Motion passed)
               
3.      The Executive Board is bringing forth a request before the General    Membership that the local purchase 20 turkeys for November and 15 turkeys, 10 hams, and 1 hen for December. (Motion passed)
 
4.      The Executive Board is bringing forth a request before the General Membership that the local donate $75 for Kirk McManus’ retirement party. (Motion passed)
 
5.      The Executive Board is bringing forth a request before the General Membership that the local that the local donate $200 to a gymnastics team affiliated with Peggy Stevens – member in good standing. (Motion passed)
 
6.      The Executive Board is bringing forth a request before the General Membership that the local spend up to $6,500 for the local’s Annual Christmas Party. (Motion passed)
 
7.      There was a discussion about the USPS National Reassessment Program.
 
8.     There was a discussion about the PTF work hours in postal facilities outside of Austin.
 
9.      There was a discussion about postal officials desire to compress the tour operations (i.e. tour 1 and tour 3) within the GMF.
 
10.  There was a discussion about the upcoming National Elections for the APWU.
 
11.   There was a discussion about the Sick Leave Bill.
 
12.  There was a discussion about COPA. President Roberts challenged members to contribute a minimum of $5 to COPA.
 
13.  There was a discussion about “stand by time.”
 
14.  There was a discussion about the VPP.

On November 1st, here will be a Susan G. Komen Race/Walk for Cancer. For more information about how to participate contact VP Linda Daniel at the APWU office.
