General Membership Meeting Minutes

11/21/09

President Larry Roberts called the meeting to order at 12:00 pm at the AFL-CIO Bldg. Brother Jesse Benavides led the Pledge of Allegiance. There was a roll call of the officers by Secretary Cory L. Purifoy. There was a quorum.

Excused Absent: n/a

Unexcused Absent: None

 1. The General Membership Minutes from October were provided to the members for review and questions. A motion was made by Sister Cathy Robbins to accept the minutes from October. (Motion passed)
 
2. The Financial Report from October was provided to the members for review and questions. A motion was made by Sister Betty Phillips to accept the Financial Report from September. (Motion passed)
 
3. Treasurer Dan Hillis proposed budget was provided to the General Membership for review and questions. A motion was made to accept the proposed budget. (Motion passed)
 
4. The Executive Board is bringing forth a request before the General Membership that the local pay 8hrs of Union LWOP to Health Plan Representative Al Garcia for his work during the health fair. (Motion passed)
 
5. The Executive Board is bringing forth a request before the General Membership that the local donate $300 to Sister Betty Phillips Turkey Leg Buyer’s Club. (Motion passed)
 
6. There was a discussion about the Postal Service failure in reposting jobs.
 
7. There was a discussion about the National Reassessment locally. The USPS has not announced a date that interviews will begin regarding injured workers.
 
8. There was a discussion about employees on OWCP being placed on “Stand by time.”
 
9. There was a discussion about OIG investigating issues of employee medical documentation fraud. If you find out you’re the subject of an OIG investigation, be sure to request a Union steward and/or legal representation.
 
10. There was a discussion about 5-day delivery.
 
11. There was a discussion about major mailers attempt to attack the unionized workforce.
 
12.  President Roberts spoke about the recent retirement announcement of President William Burrus. He will retire in November of 2010.
 
13. President Roberts took a moment to recognize the service of retiring Union steward Kirk McManus. 
 
14. There was a discussion about the upcoming pay raise in the December 11th paychecks.
 
Announcements:
 
The local’s Annual Christmas Party will be held at the Pflugerville Lion’s Club on Saturday, December 12th. For more information and directions contact the Union office.
 
Sister Cathy Robbins announced that Cory McClellan was selected as the Scholarship Award Winner for 2009.
 
APWU Donuts will be available December 9-10.
