Executive Board Meeting Minutes

12/20/08

 

Vice-President Linda Daniel called the meeting to order at 11:05am at the AFL-CIO Bldg. There was a roll call of the officers by Secretary Cory L. Purifoy.

 

Excused Absent: George Roman

 

Unexcused Absent:

 

Old Business from November 15, 2008:

 

1.   The E-Board Minutes from October were handed to officers.  Motion made to accept minutes by Cathy Robbins and seconded by John Mercado. (Motion passed)

 

2.   It was announced that the day for Christmas Donuts will be Dec. 18-19 from 3pm – 3pm.

 

3.   Christmas party will be held Dec. 14th. Motion was made not to exceed $7000.00 for the local’s Christmas party. Motion made by Roy Vasquez and seconded by Jesse Benavidez. The location will be at 500 N. Railroad St., Pflugerville, Texas. (Motion passed)

 

4.   A motion was made by George Roman and seconded by Linda Daniel to allow Derelle Young to take pictures at the locals Christmas party at no expense to the local & to have permission to market the pictures to the membership. (Motion passed)

 

5.   Multi-Craft seminar to be held in Bossier City, LA., Feb. 26-28.  Motion made by Linda Daniel and seconded by George Roman to send up to 8 members at the discretion of the President. (Motion passed)

 

6.   President Roberts discussed the ballots sent out for the National Business Agents race. The Dept. of Labor sent out 2 ballots due to problems with the first ballot.  President Roberts encouraged the members to vote.

 

7.   There was a discussion about the T.V. in the cafeteria needing an upgrade.

 

8.   Clerk Craft Director John Mercado announced that he would provide a prize to be drawn at the December meeting.

 

 

 

 

9.   A motion was made by Linda Daniel and seconded by Jesse Benavidez to have 2 additional door prizes of $50.00 each for those members present at the Dec. meeting. Dec. 20th General Membership meeting. (Motion passed)

 

New Business:

 

1.   The Executive Board Minutes from November were provided for review and questions.  A motion was made to accept the Executive Board Minutes from November with corrections. (Motion passed)

 

2.   Vice-President Linda Daniel led a discussion about the possible changes in the Family Medical Leave Act.

 

3.   Vice-President Linda Daniel spoke about the elimination of Tour 2 operations at the General Mail Facility.

 

4.   President Larry Roberts made a motion to pay Derelle Young $150.00 for his photography services during the local’s annual Christmas party. (Motion passed)

 

5.   A motion was made and seconded to adjust the December giveaway to 30 turkeys, 20 hams, and no chicken. (Motion passed)

 

6.   A motion was made by President Larry Roberts and seconded by Treasurer Dan Hillis that the local spend up to $850.00 to send (8) people at his discretion to attend the Multi-Craft Seminar in Bossier City, LA  February 26-28, 2008. (Motion passed)

 

7.   Brother Jesse Benavides spoke about (4) APWU members in Lockhart, Texas wanting to merge with our local. President Roberts recommends that the issue be brought to a vote in February.

 

8.   Sister Betty Phillips (4-H Club Member) made a formal request before the e-board that the local to give $300.00 to the turkey leg buyer’s group to help with underprivileged youth’s participation in the Travis County Youth Show to be held in January. (Motion passed)

 

A motion to adjourn was made and seconded.
