General Membership Meeting Minutes

12/20/08

President Larry Roberts called the meeting to order at 12:15pm at the AFL-CIO Bldg. Brother John Castillo led the Pledge of Allegiance. There was a roll call of the officers by Secretary Cory L. Purifoy.

Excused Absent: George Roman

Unexcused Absent:

 1. The General Membership Minutes from November were provided to the members for review and questions. A motion was made to accept the minutes from November. (Motion passed)
 
 2. The Financial Report from November was provided to the General Membership for review and questions. A motion was made to accept the Financial Report from November by Cathy Robbins and seconded by President Larry Roberts. (Motion passed)
 
 3. The Executive Board is bringing forth a request before the General Membership that the local spend up to $850.00 to send (8) people at the president’s discretion to attend the Multi-Craft Seminar in Bossier City, LA February 26-28, 2009. (Motion passed)
 
 4. The Executive Board is bringing forth a request before the General Membership in behalf of Sister Betty Phillips (a 4-H Club Member) that the local donate $300.00 to the turkey leg buyer’s group to help with underprivileged youth participation in the Travis County Youth Show to be held in January.
 
 5. Brother Roy Vasquez reports that there will be a $212.00 COPA 50/50 drawing and an auction of items donated by Brother John Mercado later in the meeting.
 
  6. President Larry Roberts discussed the new changes in FMLA are expected to be effective January 16, 2009. President Roberts is awaiting the National’s position on these changes.
 
 
 
 
 7. There was a discussion about the National Reassessment, and an upcoming meeting related to injured workers in which President Roberts is planning to attend.
 
 8. President Roberts announced that the new Health Plan deadline has been extended to December 28, 2008. 
 
 9. There was a discussion about the 4-day workweek still being on the table at the national level.
 
 10. There was a discussion about RI 399.
 
 11. President Roberts spoke about the importance of President-Elect Obama addressing healthcare issues, and its associated costs.
