General Membership Meeting Minutes

12/19/09

 

Vice-President Linda Daniel called the meeting to order at 12:00 pm at the AFL-CIO Bldg. Sister Cathy Robbins led the Pledge of Allegiance.  There was a roll call of the officers by Acting Secretary John Castillo.  There was a quorum.

 

Excused Absent: Al Garcia

 

Unexcused Absent: None

 

 

      1.   The General Membership Minutes from November were provided to the members for review and questions. A motion was made by Sister Cathy Robbins and seconded by Brother Jesse Benavidez to accept the minutes from November. (Motion passed)
 
2.      The Financial Report from November was provided to the members for review and questions. A motion was made by Sister Cathy Robbins and seconded by Brother Leonard Lara to accept the Financial Report from November. (Motion passed)
 
3.      The Executive Board is bringing forth a request before the General    Membership that the local pay Brother Derrelle Young $250 for his photography services during the APWU Annual Christmas Party. (Motion passed)
 

4.      The Executive Board is bringing forth a request before the General    Membership that the local expend up to 80 to service-member Rex Kitchens who is serving in IRAQ. (Motion passed)

 

5.      There was a discussion about the USPS National Reassessment Program.

 

6.      There was a discussion about staffing issues at GMF and stations.

 

7.      There was a discussion about the potential for a 4-day work week.

 

8.     There was a discussion about management’s attempt to utilize more PTRs instead of FTRs.

 

9.      There was a discussion about the new leadership within the DOL attempt to correct the restrictions imposed by the Bush Administration.

 

10.  There was a discussion about COPA.

 

11.   There was a discussion about fighting the 5-day delivery plans by management. If successful, this would be undoubtedly the beginning of privatization.

 

12.  There was a discussion about CFS gaining 15 positions.

 

13.  There was a discussion about the status of East Austin Station which remains on the books for possible closure.

 

14.  There was a discussion about the USPS future plans for FSS, but fortunately Austin has been excluded.
