General Membership Meeting Minutes

2/19/11

 

Vice-President Linda Daniel called the meeting to order at 12:10 pm at the AFL-CIO Bldg. Brother John Castillo led the Pledge of Allegiance. There was a roll call of the officers by Cory L. Purifoy. There was a quorum.

 

Excused Absent: John Mercado, Jesse Benavides, Leonard Lara

 

Unexcused Absent: n/a

 

      1.   The General Membership Minutes from December were provided to the members for review and questions. A motion was made to accept the minutes from December. (Motion passed)
 
2.      The Financial Report from January was provided to the members for review and questions. A motion was made by Sister Cathy Robbins to accept the Financial Report from January. (Motion passed)
 

3.      The Executive Board brought forth a request before the General Membership that the local donate $250 to the 4H Club. (Motion passed)

 

4.      The Executive Board brought forth a request before the General Membership that the local donate $250 to the Balcones Softball League. (Motion passed)

 

5.      The Executive Board brought forth a request before the General Membership that the local spend up to $4,000 for the APWU Picnic and installation offices. (Motion passed)

 

6.      There was a discussion about the new plant manager for the GMF.

 

7.      There was a discussion about the current negotiations at the National level of the APWU. Talks between the APWU & USPS are ongoing.

 

8.     President Roberts explained that a moratorium (i.e. a hold) on all local and national level arbitrations until May.

 

9.      There was a discussion about Austin’s FMLA Office will be officially closed the end of March. The San Antonio FMLA Office will be handling Austin’s requests for FMLA.

 

10.  There was a discussion about the possibility of the Bulk Mail Operations move to acceptance at the customer service windows.

 

11.   There was a discussion about an upcoming arbitration regarding the Postal Service not being in compliance with MS 47.

 

12.  There was a discussion about Leave.

 

13.  There was a discussion about injured workers.

 

14.  There was a discussion about the Lockhart postal workers (Members at Large) joining as members of local 299. It was brought to a vote to have the Lockhart postal workers join the local. The membership “unanimously” agreed to have Lockhart (Members at Large) join local 299. (Motion passed)
