General Membership Minutes

October 21, 2006


President Roberts called meeting to order at 12:12pm at the AFL-CIO building. A quorum was present and a tape recorder was used. The Pledge of Allegiance was lead by Brother Dan Hillis. Members present: 25. The secretary made roll call of the officers.

Excused absent: Willie Sugg, George Roman, and Leonard Lara


The September general membership minutes were passed out to the membership. A motion was made by Sister Cathy Robbins to accept the minutes. Motion passed by the general membership. The September financial report was passed out to the membership. A motion was made and second to accept the report. Motion passed by the general membership.


A motion was made by Brother Roy Vasquez and second to change the regular order of business to hold an E-BD meeting about appointing a steward. Motion passed by the general membership. The E-BD approved the appointing of Brother Cory Purifory as a Clerk steward.


Old Business:

  1. Brother Roy Vasquez gave a report about the Austin Area Local picnic.


New Business:

  1. A motion passes by the E-BD to have 25 turkeys and 1 chicken for the November give away meeting. Motion passed by the general membership.

  2. A motion passes by the E-BD to have 10 hams, 15 turkeys, and 1 chicken for the December give away meeting. Motion passed by the general membership.

  3. A motion passes by the E-BD to increase the Koman Foundation donation by $200.00 with a total of $500.00. Motion passed by the general membership.

  4. A motion passes by the E-BD to spend up to $5000.00 on the Christmas party. Motion passed by the general membership.


President Roberts spoke on the National Day of Picket by wearing our APWU union t-shirts on October 26, 2006 and the t-shirts will be selling for $3.00. He also talked about the changes at the Plant and stations. Sister Pasty Minjarez was recognized at the Diversity Conference for community service. The Orville Bennett Scholarship was awarded to Courtney Hackett, the daughter Jo Hackett at Manchaca Post Office. COPA drawing- Ben Solis- $40.00 T-Shirts- Jesse Benevides, Dan Hillis, John Mercado, and Donna Foley We raised $80.00 and $40.00 went to COPA.
